Origins of White TeaThe term white tea first started in China by poor presents who could not afford tea. They would drink boiled water instead yes they would still partake in the ceremony of drinking tea with ones guests. The presents would refer to this water as “white tea” since it was clear in color compared to green tea. Actual white tea gets its name from the white buds of the plant. These young buds are usually often picked at night and kept out of direct sun light. They are then steamed to stop the oxidation process to preserve their freshness and youth, Its lighter color also come from this steaming process. White Teas
